Meeting King

by Kristen
(Ontario, Canada)

In the summer of 2011, my family dog died. We had her for 5 years, and her death was a complete surprise.

My parents didn't want to get another dog, but I just couldn't live without one. So, low and behold, 3 months later, I dragged my mom to our local animal shelter to start our journey of looking for a new dog.

There were six or seven dogs in the shelter, but one caught my eye right away. They told me he was a twenty-month old Rottweiler named King.

We took him out for a walk, and he was very energetic and very kind. He licked our hands, nuzzled our legs, and wanted to run around and play with us.

I had been under the impression, like most people, that Rotties were very vicious and very hard to control. King proved this wrong in the first thirty seconds of meeting him.

Although he loved to jump up, and lightly bit our fingers, he was the sweetest, most loving dog I honestly had ever met.

His previous owner was moving to the city, so he gave him up willingly so that King wouldn't be confined to a life indoors. He had only been in the shelter for two weeks.

In that short time spent with him, I knew that he was the dog for us. Two days later, I went back with my dad, and we officially adopted King and brought him home. Now, almost 3 months later, I have never been so happy.

He is the best dog I could ever ask for. He is fully house trained, knows all the basic commands - and more - and loves to cuddle.

Adopting King was the best decision I have ever made.
